Tramini

Its name might be a bit of a mouthful but if you’re looking for a full-bodied, aromatic wine, you can’t go wrong with this Alsatian wine (though it is produced in many other wine-producing regions as well, such as Chile, New Zealand and Oregon.) No shrinking violet, Gewürztraminers are well-known for their perfumy, spicy aromas (nor surprisingly, its name means “spicy grape” in German). Available in varying degrees of sweetness, these wines can be dry though some late harvest versions can almost pass off as dessert.

Tasting notes: Again, this depends on the wine but those from France’s Alsace region tend to be full-bodied affairs with notes of allspice, cloves and lychee.

Pairing suggestions: The dry varieties tend to go well with Asian food, grilled sausages, cheese and fruit.
